Rich Kid Cool creates a "Spectacle"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Rich Kid Cool creates a "Spectacle"

A one-of-a-kind art print created by the masterminds behind RKC called "Life's a Spectacle" sold for an undisclosed sum on Saturday at a silent art auction to an undisclosed charity. The auction was sponsored by Michael and Jeremy Stoppelman of Yelp.

From the artist statement:

"If eyes are the windows to the soul, then the spectacles that frame them are the curtains and valances. The early work of Rich Kid Cool reflects their obsession with the rich and powerful cultural attachés of their time. Their work is self-centered and self-important, bordering on narcissistic and calling attention to preeminant figures they feel embody their own version of being 'rich kid cool.' Only the eyes and the iconic frames (as well as the colloquial first name) of these influentials were chosen, reflecting the sentiment, 'This is all you need to recognize this noteworthy selection. If you don't, then I guess you're relatively uncool and unworthy to waste our breath on.' Despite the self-absorption, the piece still manages a bit of cleverness: The celebrities have turned the tables by obfuscating their appearance by paring it down to their vital essence, making the viewer struggle to place their identity. It seems that they have the upper hand, finally able to dismiss the scrutiny of celebrity and shifting their gaze to scrutinize the viewer."
